This review of Yes-I-Did (YID) will be more than just a look at his art. It will also be a customer review of sorts since I purchased two pieces of art from him. At certain times, YID makes himself available for commissions that can range from the cheesecake to damsel in distress type of bondage art.

YID is a artist that specializes in a "cartoony" type of work. Bright colors, bold lines and leaning heavy into pop culture mediums like tv and comics makes his art very enjoyable and easy to identify. When you see one of his art pieces on here, you'll have no problem telling it is his work.

One aspect of his work I really like is his attention to detail, especially with anatomy. Yes, his characters are cartoon-like but they are well proportioned and consistent. You don't see his ladies have arms more fitting a chimpanzee than a human. I say this because I've seen art like the cover of Batgirl #7 where arm lengths are terribly rendered.

YID also takes that attnetion to detail with how he works in bondage gear. When many artists use gear like a singleglove, the result could end up having the character's arms so squished into the glove that there would be no humanly way it could ever happen. It's as if they forgot that there is a thickness to arms that can't just be forgotten. YID doesn't seem to forget those details, though the casual smiles his girls tend to have when they are in such things is a bit of a stretch. I've been tied once with elboes touching and smiling was the last thing I wanted to do.

From a customer point of a view, again YID does a very nice job. He is very clear on costs and what he will or will not draw. When he needs info on the subject matter, he will ask and not just guess what you might want. If you have a question, he responds back to you in a very timely manner. I don't think I ever had to wait more than a day for him to get back with me on anything.

Usually I try to work in a critique on the artist but I have to admit that YID does his work very well. I will say that if you are looking for very realistic art or bondage art of the "mature" quality, you probably will need to go somewhere else. YID's work ranges around the G to PG-13 level and only that high because of the occasional and frustrating crotchrope his girls can find themselves in. Topics like vore, death or gore does not exist in YID's work.

Now it's time for the interview with YID, please enjoy.

1. What are the tools of your trade?

YID Everything is originally drawn and inked by hand, using a variety of tools. Mainly non-photo blue and regular mechanical pencils, then inked with Pitt marker pens of varying sizes. After that, it’s scanned in to Photoshop where all the coloring and other elements are added.

2. What artists are you a fan of? (any genre)

YID Just a very few would include Gil Elvgren (and classic pin-up art in general), Bruce Timm, Adam Warren, Dan DeCarlo, classic Disney animation (really a lot of animation in general)…and the list could go on indefinitely.

3. Favorite fictional character(s)?

YID I’m such a nerd for good books, TV and movies that it actually makes this question harder to answer rather than easier! So I’ll just say, of all time, probably Donald Duck. Go figure.

4. What would be your dream commission?

YID I can’t say that there’s one specific “dream commission” that comes to mind. Speaking generally, it’s always fun to take popular characters from cartoons and comics and put them in the sort of bondage/DiD settings my commissions present. Though it can be enjoyable trying my own take on people’s original characters as well, which also seems to be a popular request.

5. What is it about bondage theme art that appeals to you?

YID Well, first of all, pretty girls are just fun to draw. I’ve always enjoyed cheesecake/pin-up style art. And, as the answer to question #6 is about to reveal, I’ve had an interest in bondage for about as long as I can remember. So when I started getting a gradual increase in bondage commissions (doing a couple seemed to create a snowball effect), it seemed a very natural thing to just run with it. And now here we are!

6. At what age did you first discovered an interest in bondage?

YID At a very early age. I remember being fascinated by any sort of “damsel in distress” scenes in cartoons and movies as a child and not even knowing why. From there, the interest never left me.

7. Philosopher Albert Camus said that our "make-believe" defines us as well as our sincere impulses. Based on your artwork, what definition should we be getting about you?

YID Well, all of my bondage artwork is commissions, so perhaps the pieces would more accurately define the client who dreamed up the idea. Though I’m the one bringing it to life, so, hey, how DOES that define me?!

8. How important is it for you to enjoy doing an art piece? Or are you able to just do it as well regardless of interest?

YID Well, obviously it’s more pleasant when I enjoy what I’m working on, though that doesn’t mean I don’t also sometimes accept commissions that I find less interesting. Fortunately most of the commissions I get are pretty fun concepts, so I rarely get bored with them. Things definitely go more quickly and smoothly when I’m having a good time with it.

9. By your gut instinct...which type is more Domme? sub? Redheads, Brunettes, Blondes or Raven haired

YID I honestly can’t say I’ve noticed a pattern that favors one over the other. It seems to me that both sorts appear among all hair colors!
